ASSIGNMENT
Digital Triptych
This assignment is the continuous of Assignment 1 : That Decisive Moment and the objective is to apply Scott McCloud's theory on transitions to create a digital triptych. This artwork will consist of three panels: one before, one during (climactic turning point), and one after a significant event. Each panel will represent a different transition type from McCloud's theory.
Type of transitions from Scott McCloud's theory :

| Fig.3.1 Type of Transitions , Week 10 , 29.11.2023 |
- Movement-to-movement transitions show basic movements occurring.
- Action-to-action transitions show a single subject progressing through a specific movement.
- Subject-to-subject transitions stays within a specific scene or idea and call for more reader involvement.
- Scene-to-scene transitions take place across significant distances within time and space.
- Aspect-to-aspect is unique in that it shows different aspects occurring simultaneously within the same scene.
We have to select one transition type for each of the three panels: before, during (climactic turning point), and after the turning point. I choose action-to-action as my transition to narrate my urban legend story.
As the climactic panel (the decisive moment gif ) is completed, now i have to craft simple panels representing the events leading up to it and the aftermath based on it.
The Climatic Panel

Panel : Before
I aim to depict the driver driving through Jayuro Highway, following the directions given by the ghost.
Therefore, I plan to modify the climactic panel by changing the background from a cemetery to a highway, making the ghost appear like an ordinary person, and depicting the driver actively engaged in driving.
To do so, I've conducted research on illustrations featuring highway roads and views from the backseat of a car.
|
Following that, I initiate the digitisation process by tracing the highways and trees in the panel.

Panel : After
I revert to the frame that I previously designed for the GIF to create my last panel.
Basically, I just make slight alterations to the appearance of the ghost. I intend to illustrate the ghost waving her hand to the driver.
Transition Type: Action to Action
Panel 1: Before
Explanation: In this panel, the transition is action to action, focusing on the sequence of events leading up to the climactic turning point. The first frame captures the action of the driver fetching a woman home late at night on Jayuro Highway. The use of Action to Action transition allows the audience to experience the quiet and eerie atmosphere, emphasising the solitude and stillness of the surroundings. The absence of cars and people, along with the soft hum of the engine, creates a sense of suspense and anticipation, setting the stage for the upcoming significant event.
Panel 2: During
Explanation: The transition between panels two and three is also Action to Action, emphasising the driver's realisation during the climactic turning point. Looking back, the driver discovers a crucial action—the woman they were driving home is actually a ghost, and they are headed towards a cemetery. This transition type serves to intensify the narrative by directly connecting the driver's action of looking back to the shocking revelation, creating a moment of suspense and surprise. The sudden shift in the atmosphere from the calmness of the highway to the haunting realisation adds a layer of tension to the story.
Panel 3: After
Explanation: The final panel uses Action to Action transition to illustrate the aftermath of the significant event. The ghost, having been brought home, is now waving at the driver as a way of expressing gratitude. This transition allows for a seamless flow from the climax to the resolution, capturing the moment of acknowledgment and connection between the living and the supernatural. The subtle action of the ghost waving serves as a poignant conclusion to the narrative, revealing the impact of the driver's actions and highlighting the unexpected bond forged through the journey.
First Attempt
Mr. Hafiz suggested that, for the last panel, it would be better if the spectre is depicted with its back turned toward us, walking towards the grave. Following his suggestion, I commenced illustrating this scene accordingly.

Explanation: The final panel employs the Action to Action transition to illustrate the aftermath of the significant event. The ghost, depicted with its back turned towards us, walking towards the cemetery, signifies a continued action after the climax. This transition maintains the flow of the narrative, allowing the audience to witness the ghost's departure and the conclusion of the encounter. The use of the ghost's back turned towards us adds an element of mystery, leaving the resolution open to interpretation and inviting the viewer to reflect on the implications of the journey.
