REFLECTIONS
Experience: Attending the 14-week typography class was a completely new experience for me. As someone who is new to typography, the experience was a mix of challenges, learning, and realisation that improvement takes effort and time. Typography proved to be more difficult than I expected, and to be honest, I'm not fully satisfied with parts of my work. However, in the midst of the struggle, there's a sense of accomplishment, knowing that every task, even if not perfect, made up to my growth. In the beginning, I felt a bit lost with the various software like Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and FontLab. Fortunately, Mr. Vinod, had our backs. He patiently went us through each task and provided tutorials introducing each software, making it possible for me to finish every task.
Observation: The challenges didn't stop once I learned the basics; in fact, coming up with creative typography ideas was another new challenge. Creating interesting designs was not as simple as I thought. I noticed myself spending a lot of time brainstorming, but the problem was that I often spent too much time doing it. As a result, I ran out of time to complete my projects. It felt like a bit of a struggle.
Findings: This experience taught me that even when things look difficult, there is always something to learn. It's alright to not be perfect, especially when you're just getting started. The exposure to different software was initially overwhelming, but the tutorials made it less so. I found that learning is a process, and that persistent leads to improvement.
