PROJECT 1
Exercise 1 : Audio Dubbing
We are going to create sound dubbing for a silent clip from the movie "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once." We need to record our own dialogue and find the necessary sound effects online for the 35-second clip. The background music is not required for this exercise.
Here is the 35-second clip that we need to work with.

Mr. Martin also provided an audio dubbing subtitle to make it easier for us when recording our audio. After I've finished recording the dialogue, I uploaded it to my Google Drive and organised it into a folder.
We need to break down each scene in the clip and list the sound effects required for each scene in a spreadsheet. During the Week 3 tutorial and practical class, Mr. Martin organised us into groups to work on this spreadsheet. My group members and I analysed the original clip with sound and completed the spreadsheet before the Week 4 class.

Once everything is prepared, I start dubbing the sound for the clip using Adobe Premiere Pro.
1. Import the 35 second clip and all the sound effects into Premiere Pro.

2. Lock the video track after dragging the video clip into the timeline section.

3. Add the audio tracks below the video track in the timeline section.
- A1-A3: 3 tracks for dialogue. ( Each track for each character )
- A4-A6: 3 tracks for sound effects.
- A7-A8: 2 tracks for ambience sound.
|
4. Insert the dialogue according to the timing of the clip.

6. Edit voice from female to male, male to female, human to cute animal/adult to kid: Premiere Pro → Audio Effects → Pitch Shifter → Semi tones. I edited my voice for each character using different settings.

8. Insert the sound effects and the ambient sounds according to the timing of the clip.
9. Adjust the audio levels to the appropriate volume in Effect Control Panel.
- Dialogue: between -6dB & -12dB
- Ambience: below -20dB,
- Hard sound effects: Depend.
- Crossfade: When one audio or video clip fades out while the next one fades in smoothly. It helps make transitions between clips seamless.

Exercise 2 : Sound Shaping
We will use Adobe Audition to modify a voice for different scenarios: during a phone call, from inside a closet, in a bathroom or toilet, in an underground cave, and as an alien or orc. Mr. Martin provided the voice for us to practice transforming it for these specific situations.
Here's the link to my outcome for this practice:
We need to record our own voice for 5 seconds for the Project 1: Exercise 2 submission. The instructions are the same as for the practice; the only difference is that we need to use our own voice to transform into the 5 scenarios.

REFLECTION
Working on this project ( audio dubbing ) was really fun! It was very amusing to record the dialogue since it was funny to try to get into character while speaking lines. Also, learning new skills in Premiere Pro made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I had a great time and learned a lot.
Working on the sound shaping exercise was also a lot of fun. I got to play around with various effects and techniques in Adobe Audition, which really opened up creative possibilities. It was fascinating to see how I could manipulate my voice to suit different settings like a phone call or an underground cave, and to morph it into characters such as aliens or orcs. This hands-on experimentation not only boosted my technical skills but also gave me a deeper appreciation for the way sound can completely change the atmosphere and narrative of a recording.
