Exercises 1: Quantifiable Information
Objective: Visually represent numerical data using a photograph for easy interpretation and analysis.
Instructions:
- Choose a set of objects (e.g. buttons, Lego pieces, marbles, coins, M&Ms, etc).
- Categorize them based on quantifiable factors like color, shape, or pattern.
- Arrange the objects into a presentable layout, such as a chart or organized display.
- Clearly label the quantities using written indicators (e.g. numbers or labels with a pen).
- Capture a well-composed photograph showcasing the categorized data
Since I don't have any suitable materials at home for this exercise, I plan to visit a stationery shop to buy A3 drawing paper and look for other usable materials. Fortunately, I found some colored craft sticks that I think could be useful for this exercise.

The pack contains 98 craft sticks, with each color having 16 sticks except for red, which has 18. However, I won’t be using all of them in my layout design as they are quite large and may not fit on my A3 drawing paper.

I started arranging my layout randomly and came up with an idea, but it looks too plain and not interesting enough.

After that, I got inspiration from my friend. He said that colors can represent emotions. So, I decided to create a situation and use the colored sticks to show my emotions. The colors I used to represent my emotions are based on the movie Inside Out 2.
Red - Anger
Orange - Anxiety
Yellow - Joy
Green - Disgust
Blue - Sadness
Purple - Fear

I thought of a situation where I miss the last bus home and considered how much of each emotion I would feel in that case. Then, I used these ratings as my data and came up with a few ideas.

After coming up with these ideas, I realized that I forgot an important detail (I need to label the quantity). So, I referred to some of my previous layout ideas and created a new layout. For another one, I simply added the quantity to it.

In the end, I chose Idea #5 as my final outcome.

REFLECTION
In this exercise, I learned how to show numbers using a photo so they are easy to understand and look nice. It took a lot of time because I had to try many different layouts before choosing the best one. When placing the sticks, I had to be very careful not to move them by mistake. Otherwise, I would have to start over, which made it harder. However, this experience helped me understand how to present data in a creative and clear way.
