For Project 2, we'll be creating a short channel bumper for a brand of our choice. This video will serve as a brief introduction to the brand and should be around 10 to 15 seconds long.
Mr. Fauzi suggested that if we’re not sure which brand to choose, we can think about the ones we personally use or like. He recommended choosing a small brand rather than a well-known one, because small brands usually don’t have this kind of motion graphic video to represent them. If we make one, people might think it’s official and see it as professional work. This project can also be a great addition to our internship portfolio. The main idea is to create a motion graphic video that adds value and helps promote the brand.
1. Research suitable brands
The first brand I can think of is Fresh. Their products are mostly for skincare, but I want to focus on their fragrances instead.

The second brand I can think of is Dododots because I use their pimple patches a lot. I really like their minimalist and playful graphic style.

After listening to Mr. Fauzi’s suggestion, I decided to choose Dododots for my project, as I’m more familiar with it than Fresh.
2. Moodboard
As I'm going to focus on the three feature products for Dododots, which are the basic shapes of the pimple patch ( love, flower and butterfly ), I found three moodboards to match each one's vibe.

3. Storyboard
After creating the moodboard, I started thinking about the storyboard and how I want to convey the brand’s message to others. I spent a lot of time planning how each scene should transition, as it took me a while to figure everything out. Below are my initial ideas for the storyboard.

After presenting my storyboard to Mr. Fauzi, he mentioned that it felt more like a channel identity, which is the next project, rather than a channel bumper. He pointed out that my current version was too long and detailed. He suggested that I look for more references and simplify the concept to better fit the purpose of a channel bumper.
I started searching for references to better understand what a channel bumper should look like. Fortunately, I found a motion graphics video for Dododots ( unofficial ) that I can refer to. Although it also includes elements of channel identity, I can still take some ideas from it to help develop and refine my revised storyboard.
Besides the Dododots video, I also looked at motion graphics from brands like Burger King and Spotify to get more ideas for transitions.
Below is my revised storyboard.

4. Illustration
Here are the illustrations I designed for the initial storyboard. I traced the character from Dododots’ product and changed its colors to create the main character for my storyboard.

Since I haven’t started the animation yet after receiving feedback, I still have time to finalize the illustrations for my revised storyboard. I selected some of the necessary illustrations from my initial storyboard and labeled each element in separate layers before importing them into After Effects.

I traced the logo manually since I couldn’t find the exact font used.

5. Animation
I imported the illustrations as a composition into After Effects and began animating them based on my revised storyboard.

6. Adding BGM & sound effects
After completing the animation, I began searching for suitable background music and sound effects. The sound effects, such as UI button clicking sounds and whoosh transitions, were fairly easy to find, but finding the right background music took much longer, as most of the tracks didn’t match the vibe I was aiming for. Luckily, I eventually found one that fit well, and it matched the timing of my animation perfectly.
Specific feedback: I may proceed accordingly. However, the content from slide #8 onwards is still incomplete. I can finalize the remaining information later.
Week 9
Specific feedback: My current storyboard seems more suitable for Project 3 because it already contains a storyline. If I use this version for my channel bumper in Project 2, I'll end up needing to do more work for Project 3 later. For Project 2, the focus should be on introducing the brand — I need to include some text that explains what the brand is about. It's meant to serve as a brand introduction. I should also look at more examples of how other brands create their channel bumpers. Without those references, I might end up relying only on my own logic and ideas.
Through this project, I became more comfortable using After Effects compared to the last project. While doing the animation, I often watched tutorials on YouTube to learn how to create the effects I wanted. Because of this, I learned many new skills, and the project became both fun and educational.
One thing that made this project more interesting was the chance to create a motion graphics video for a brand. It felt like I was doing a real project for a client. Since I could choose one of my favorite brands, I enjoyed the process even more.
There were some challenges along the way. The hardest part was coming up with ideas and planning the storyboard. It took me a long time to think about the scenes and how they should change. The technical part was also a bit difficult, but luckily, I found tutorials to help me do most of the effects I wanted.
In the end, I’m happy with how the project turned out. It was a fun and useful experience that helped me improve both my creativity and technical skills.
